Dear School Families,
When reflecting on this week’s Gospel (Mt 5:1-12a), I am reminded of a conversation that I once had with Fr. Walter Modrys, a Jesuit priest who served at St. Clare several years ago. Fr. Walter felt that when examining our conscience before reconciliation we should refer to the Beatitudes instead of the 10 Commandments. I think Fr. Walter made an excellent point. Quite simply, I think that in the Beatitudes Jesus teaches us that we are meant to help the poor and the suffering; he teaches us what we need to do to live our faith.
This week we celebrate Catholic Schools. It will be a week filled with fun activities for our students. The week will begin with our Open House on Monday. We look forward to showing prospective school families our wonderful school. Students are asked to wear full winter uniform (gym uniform for those students that have gym) on Monday. A flyer listing some of the planned activities and dress downs for the week was sent out last week and can also be found on the Parent Memo page of the school website.
To date, over 3,000 cans have been collected for our Jr. Giving Circle ‘Souper Bowl’ can drive. Thank you for your generosity. The winning class for the dress down for the most cans collected will be announced on Wednesday. While It seems that our students (and parents!) enjoyed the competitive aspect of the drive, it is important to remember that what matters most is that we were able to help those in need.
Please remember to place Nucci orders as a new month begins the middle of this week.
We are seeing an increase of flu and other illnesses in the school. Our maintenance staff continues to disinfect classrooms nightly. Please encourage children to wash their hands frequently and keep students home if they are not feeling well.
We look forward to the First Friday Mass led by our first grade students on this coming Friday, February 3rd.
Mrs. Griffo and I were so impressed by the talent exhibited at our Talent Show rehearsal on Thursday and can’t wait for the show on Friday evening. It will be a phenomenal end to Catholic Schools Week! Tickets ($10/ticket) will be available for purchase the night of the show. Thanks to Mrs. Bonavita, Mr. Greco, Mrs. Pinto, and Mrs. Quinones for all of their hard work on the show!
Report Cards will be distributed on Thursday, February 9th. Please be sure that tuition payments are up to date.
Friday, February 10th will be a 12:00 dismissal day for a faculty meeting.
Please review the list of upcoming events below.
Have a Blessed Catholic Schools Week!
