Dear St. Clare School Families,
In this week’s gospel, we are reminded to pray often. At school, we begin each day with prayer. It is a special time of the day before the hecticness of the school day begins. Prayer does not need to be elaborate or take much time. It can be as simple as the Jesus Prayer, “"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner” or one that I currently feel called to pray, “Lord thank you for this day. Please guide me in all I do and say”. However you choose to pray, give yourself the gift of time to step away from the busyness of the day to pray.
This week was a busy one for our school. Our 7th grade students enjoyed participating in the Day in the Life of the Hudson project at Fort Wadsworth. The data collected by the students will help scientists have a better understanding of the health of the Hudson River.
Our Kindergarten students enjoyed a visit by Rebecca, librarian from the Great Kills Library. We hope that Rebecca can come back again soon!
Notre Dame Academy and St. Peter’s Boys visited our 8th grade students this past week. We thank them for their informative presentations. We look forward to Msgr. Farrell’s this week.
Our 7th grade students will learn more about Red Lantern Flies during their trip this coming Tuesday to FreshKills Park.
School chromebooks will be sent home on Friday, October 21st with those 8th grade students who have requested to borrow school devices for the TACHS exam. Please return the devices to school on Monday, November 7th.
Our 3rd and 4th grade students will be invited to serve as ‘Pilgrims and Native Americans’ at our parish Thanksgiving Day Mass at 9:00 on Thanksgiving. More information to follow.
We have noticed that many boys are wearing sneakers with their school pants. Black dress shoes should be worn with uniform pants. Sneakers may only be worn with the uniform shorts and gym uniforms.
Flyers have been sent out for our Fashion Show. Be sure to register for this event quickly as it is on a first come, first serve basis.
Per our parent Confirmation meeting, index cards for 7th grade students were distributed on Friday, October 14th. Students should write their name and class on the card and put them into the collection basket when they attend Mass at St. Clare. Students should obtain a bulletin if they attend Mass at a different church.
A raffle form was recently sent home for the 8th grade Movie Night Basket. Our 8th graders will be visiting classes during lunch with the basket so that students may purchase raffle tickets in school.
Flyers for our pie fundraiser will be sent home on Monday, October 17th.
Trunk or Treat donation is due on Monday, October 17th.
Fashion Show Tshirt orders will not be accepted after Monday, October 17th.
We are still in need of a lunch parent for our Pre School. Please contact Mrs. Gardella ([email protected]) if you are interested.
Please note that there will be no school on Thursday, October 20th as it is a Spirituality Conference Day for our teachers. There will be a 12:00 dismissal on Friday, October 21st due to a faculty meeting.
Be sure to check the upcoming events listed below.
Have a blessed week!
Mrs. Olsen
