Reflecting on this week's Gospel (Jn 20:19-31), I was struck by Thomas' response after seeing Jesus' wounds. He said, "My Lord and my God". It is this very phrase that I said to myself when I venerated the cross during the school's Triduum liturgy. To me, this phrase reminds me that we are called to have a personal relationship with Christ. While Jesus died for all of us, he died for each of us as well.
May we all encounter Jesus on a personal level through the kind acts of others this week.
I hope that the Easter break provided all of our families and staff with time to relax and recharge. It is hard to believe that the final semester of the school year is quickly approaching.
Please keep the family of Mrs. Lisa Fitzgerald in your prayers as they mourn the passing of Mrs. Fitzgerald's father, Harry Nespoli. Viewing will be at the Scalia Funeral Home on Sunday, 4/7/24 from 2:00 - 5:00 and 7:00 - 9:00. The funeral Mass will be at St. Clare on 4/8/24 at 11:00 a.m.
Congratulations to Mrs. Treacy and her family on the birth of little Marco. May God bless him, always!
As mentioned in a prior IRIS alert, we purchased Solar Eclipse glasses for all of our students. Our staff and students are excited about this phenomenon which last occurred in 1925 and will not occur in our area again until 2079. You may have heard that a few of our 8th grade students visited the K-8 classrooms sharing a presentation with them about the eclipse as well.
Unfortunately, as a precautionary measure, the Archdiocese has notified us that we cannot distribute the glasses to our students. We're deeply disappointed by this news. We are grateful to Mrs. Contino, Mrs. Lee, and our 8th-grade students for their enthusiasm in sharing their excitement and knowledge about the eclipse with us.
The Art Fundraiser for students in grades PreK 3 - Grade 6 was sent home before the break. Orders must be returned to school no later than April 10th.
School Chromebooks will not be available for borrowing during the upcoming state tests as students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 8 will participate in computer based testing (CBT) this year.
Please be sure to place your lunch orders if interested as we are in a new month. The lunch menu may be found on the school website.
Spring uniforms may be worn starting this coming Monday.
Reminder: There will be no bus service on April 22nd and April 26th. Please mark your calendars.
Report cards will be posted on Tuesday, April 23rd. Please be sure that all tuition payments are up-to-date.
Congratulations are in order to a few of our very talented students! 7th grade student Robbie Campbell and 8th grade students Christina Powers and Meagan Wildes have been named winners and water champions of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)'s Art and Poetry contest! Each of their creative entries showcased their wonderful talent and knowledge of the NY Watershed. Well done!
We've also received word that several of our inventive students are finalists in the Antonio Meucci Young Inventors contest! Congratulations to students Elena Brown, Ava Mancuso, Christina Powers, Gabby Spano, and Meagan Wildes! Great job girls and best of luck in the finals!
