5/7/23
Dear School Families,
Today is the Fifth Sunday of Easter. In today’s Gospel (Jn 14:1-12) we are reminded that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Our parish offers many opportunities for us to grow in our faith and closer to Jesus in the celebration of our Catholic traditions.
One such tradition is the celebration of Corpus Christi Sunday – the feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ – which will take place on June 11, 2023. A procession through Great Kills will follow the 11:30 Mass as part of the celebration. Over the next few weeks, we will be seeking students from each grade to represent our school in the procession. Please contact Mrs. Olsen or Mrs. Griffo if you would like your child to participate.
Mrs. Griffo and I would like to thank our wonderful students, teachers, and staff, for the truly moving assembly for Principal Appreciation Day. We are blessed!
This coming week will be a busy one at St. Clare. MAP testing will begin this week and continue through May 26th. Monday is a teacher conference day so there will be no school for students.
Our 8th grade and Kindergarten students will have their graduation group picture taken on Tuesday, May 9th. Kindergarten students should come to school in their graduation gown and cap as explained in the instructions shared by the kindergarten teachers.
8th grade students are asked to bring in only their graduation gown (no caps or tassels) Students should wear their winter uniform (sweater not required) and bring the gown on a hangar labeled with their name. Boys should wear or bring in the blue tie they plan on wearing to the graduation ceremony or their uniform tie. Girls must wear knee socks. All must wear uniform shoes.
We look forward to our PreK Muffin with Moms and our 8th grade trip to Broadway on Wednesday, May 10th. Our 2nd grade students will have their communion retreat on Wednesday as well.
On Thursday, May 11th, our 6th grade students will have a trip to the SI Museum.
All students will visit our Plant Sale, Friday, May 12th. A special thank you to Mrs. Gardella, our Mother’s Club officers, class reps, and parent volunteers who will be helping at the Plant Sale. Parents/guardians are invited to shop with their children.
We are also in need of volunteers to make new angel and shepherd costumes for our 8th grade students’ Christmas Pageant. Material and samples will be provided. Please contact Mrs. Kneeshaw at [email protected] if you have time and talent to share.
The week wraps up with our beautiful 2nd grade students receiving their First Holy Communion on Saturday, May 13th. May God bless them on their special day!
We wish all moms, grandmothers, aunts, and all who celebrate Mother’s Day a wonderful day on Sunday!
Please review the list of upcoming events that follows.
Have a blessed week!
