Week of 9/10/23
Dear School Families,
In this week's second reading, Paul emphasizes that the essence of all commandments can be encapsulated in the simple phrase, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Although this is undeniably challenging, it is a challenge that we are called to take.
This week we pray for all who lost their lives on 9/11, for their families, and for the brave first responders who risked everything to save others.
The Welcome Back Fall Festival was a fun-filled ending to our first week of school! A special thanks to Gerri Smith and the Festival Committee for a wonderful start to the school year!
Several of our 8th grade students have embraced their role as student leaders. We thank Eva von der Osten, Stella Quinones, and Christina Powers for their help with the bulletin boards in the PreK and big school. We also appreciate the many 8th graders who assisted with Safety Patrol and supply and paper deliveries.
If you are interested in volunteering as a class representative or as the secretary or treasurer for the Mother's Club, please ensure you complete the Class Rep Volunteer Selection Form (https://forms.gle/zV3ZN1UmgyRJytYU9) or the Mother’s Club Officer Position Form (https://forms.gle/NrkzKAjP1x7qsqfJ6). These roles play a crucial part in the success of our school's numerous events. The deadline for volunteering is Wednesday, September 13th.
We have received numerous requests from parents to allow older siblings to join their younger brothers' or sisters' dismissal lines. However, due to safety concerns, we are hesitant to have a large number of students moving to various locations at dismissal. We kindly request that parents pick up their younger child first and then proceed promptly to their older child's dismissal door. Rest assured, our teachers will ensure that no child is left unattended during this process. To assist in managing this situation, we have staggered dismissal times. While dismissal may take a bit longer during these initial days of school, we anticipate that it will run smoothly once the routine is established. Please email your child’s teacher if another parent will be picking up your child. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
It is very important that blue emergency cards, sign-off packets, and income survey sheets are returned no later than Monday, September 11th.
Osteria Santina lunch service will begin on Monday, September 11th. Sign up instructions and the monthly lunch menu may be found on the Parent Memos page of the school website. To locate your child’s student ID number, login to the Educate system (adny.tads.com). Click on your child's name (in the attendance box). Click on the Demographic tab. Click on the arrow next to Demographics. You will then see the student number on the screen. Please be sure to order by 9:30 p.m. the night before.
We extend a heartfelt welcome to Seminarian Joseph Haas, who will be joining our parish this year as part of his journey toward ordination as a priest. Seminarian Joseph, we eagerly anticipate your presence with us this year and wish you a warm welcome!
We look forward to our first school Mass on Friday, September 15th at 8:30 am. The Mass will be led by our 8th graders.
Upcoming events follow.
Have a blessed week!
Mrs. Olsen
